Helmutt H. Hartert

1983 Recipient of the Jean-Leonard-Marie Poiseuille Award

Outstanding Contribution to Clinical Biorheology

H.Hartert was awarded the Poiseuille Gold Medal during the Fifth International Congress of Biorheology. His title of the Award Lecture was "Biorheology in the Practice of Medicine : Resonance Thrombography". Hartert's thrombelastography is a method designed for use in clinical labroratory. Since his exhibition in 1950, thrombelastography has become widely known and is being employed in numerous hospitals and clinical laboratories all over the globe as an aid to the practice of medicine and surgery. With thrombelastography, H.Hartert gave to the medical profession a method and tool which has kept hemorheology alive in the minds of physicians and surgeons after the previous introduction of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate which was initiated by Robin Fåhræus in the early part of this century.
