Syoten Oka
1975 Recipient of the Jean-Leonard-Marie Poiseuille Award
Outstanding Contributions to Theoritical and Experimental Biorheology |
During the 2nd International Congress of Biorheology, Syoten Oka was
awarded the Poiseuille Gold Medal. The achievements by Syoten Oka became
the great driving force in the area of biorheology centering around the
dynamics of biopolymers. His scientific attainments in the science of
biorheology are known throughout the world to researchers actively engaged
in biorheological studies. His studies in the theoritical biorheology
concern the flow of blood in small tubes and capillaries, the flow of
viscous fluids and other fields of hemorheology. His great ability in
mathematics
enabled him to solve many intricate problems which are encountered in
explaining the phenomenon of blood flow. The Poiseuille Award lecture
from Syoten Oka was "Present status of Hemorheological Theory",
gives an excellent summary. Syoten Oka was also most dedicated in his
efforts to establish the Japanese Society of Biorheology.
