Research

Historian of science and technology, Rosalyn Williams, has asserted that engineering is undergoing a transformative evolution as a profession. Engineering research is a key element of this transformative evolution. Research in the College of Engineering (CoE) is focused on both basic and applied topics of societal significance: Bioengineering, Energy, Engineering Education, Infrastructure, Nanotechnology, and Weather Technology. Compatible with the regional and national research focus on biofuels, the CoE researchers are developing technologies for improved and highly efficient processes for production of biomass-derived liquid fuels.

In recent years, cross-disciplinary research has been a key factor in the growth of our research programs and expenditures. The college leads five cross-disciplinary research institutes and centers that bring together faculty, students, and other professional participants from different disciplines: Center for Engineering Optimization (CEO), Dynamic Structures Sensing and Control (DySSC) Center, Institute for Applied Surfactant Research (IASR), Institute for Oklahoma Technology Applications (IOTA), and Oklahoma Bioengineering Center (OBC). Also, the CoE faculty provides leadership in the Center for the Study of Human Operator Performance (CSHOP).

The Institute for Oklahoma Technology Applications (IOTA) serves as an umbrella institute for the following centers: CASI - Center for Aerospace Systems/Support Infrastructure; CELDi - Center for Engineering Logistics and Distribution; CREW - Center for Restoration of Ecosystems and Watersheds; and OTC - Oklahoma Transportation Center.

RESEARCH INTERESTS :

Geotechnical Engineering
Soil dynamics, rock mechanics, soil structure interaction, flow through porous media, constitutive laws of engineering materials (testing and modeling), mine system design and ground control, bridge approach settlements, expert systems, application of numerical techniques to complex geotechnical engineering problems, earthquake engineering, and geotechnical aspects of hazardous waste disposal.
